The Moorside High School Science Department aspires to develop students who are life-long learners, skilled critical thinkers, problem solvers, innovators, and who work well in teams and individually.
We will empower them through a variety of activities and approaches to fulfil their duty as citizens and help them feel more confident in the decisions they may need to make about family, health and nutrition or environmental concerns.
The Science Department is a vibrant and active part of the school, providing opportunities for pupils to participate in clubs, trips, and inter-house activities; there is always something exciting going on. In doing this we enrich the pupil experience.
Our Key Stage 3 Science course is totally unique because we designed it ourselves! Our KS3 course covers all aspects of the national curriculum content. The aims of our course are to:
The Science Department runs a very successful Science and Engineering Club. As part of the curriculum enhancement activities we arrange visits to the National Space Centre, Chester Zoo, Big Bang Fair (both national and local events) as well as bringing events into school, such as meet the beasts.
We also run highly successful events with our feeder schools including a ‘Gases’ morning with Year 5 pupils, as well as exciting ‘Rollercoaster Challenge Days’. We also offer many after-school revision sessions.
