NB | Belgium Trip

The History department runs a trip to the Western Front in Belgium in conjunction with the Maths department.

History students from years 9 and 10 can participate in our action packed, and highly popular, 2-night/3-day residential trip to the battlefields of World War One. We centre our trip around the pretty town of Ypres, a key location for the British Army on the Western Front. We will take in a visit to the ‘In Flanders Field Museum’ in the town and then return in the evening to take part in the ‘Last Post’ ceremony at the Menin Gate. There are stops at Commonwealth War Graves sites including Tyne Cot and the German cemetery at Langemark. We also visit the excellent Memorial Museum Passchendaele 1917, and Sanctuary Wood, to see some of the original trenches.  It is a fantastic opportunity for students to develop their understanding of the First World War with site visits, and fuel their passion for history.
